Insurance Commissioner of California John Garamendi has promised to restore sanity in the process of determination of car insurance rates by ensuring zip codes are not longer a significant factor. The car insurance rates will be based on whether the applicant has a good driving history or not. Garamendi described the existing process as “irrational”. Now the drivers can look forward to a process where optional factors will not outweigh the mandatory factors in determining insurance rates.

Discriminatory pricing of car insurance in California has reached such ludicrous levels that merely moving across the street may result in a rise in your car insurance rates. This is what the analysis of California’s largest insurance carriers trio has revealed. This difference exists due to the fact that demographic factor such as population density etc. are not considered at all by the auto insurance carriers.
